Answer :
Though Indian music is essentially monophonic while Western music can be polyphonic, monophonic or a combination of both; I still feel Indian classical music is more powerful. Western classical music is based upon the equal tempered scale, and rests upon melody, harmony and counterpart while Swara and Tala are the two basic components of Indian classical music. Swaras are the twelve notes and the intervening semitones , while a Tala is a cycle of beats, starting with a stress point called the Sam and ending with a release point called the Khali. It is this (sam & khali) that brings life to a Tala. I feel Indian Clasical Music is more powerful because the roots of this is relegious and how can we ignore the most important factor i.e, Guru-Shishya relationship.

Answer :
I think western classical is more powerful coz of following reasons : 1. As far as vocals is concerned Indian classical concentrates on the efficient use of notes, melody, rythm and 'Sur' but no emphasis is given to the vocal production where as in case of western classical, apart frm the above mentioned things, you also learn different techniques of vocal production and delivery, how to project your voice so that it is full of depth and power, different areas to resonate your voice so that each time your voice has a different effect, to use your whole body to support your singing rather than depending entirely on ur vocal chords, using your voice to ur full xtent (covering all the registers), etc. 2. Western classical is far more structured and organised than indian classical. You just give a printred sheet f staff notations and any musician having a knowledge of western classical can use it on any instrument....Notations are the same for all the insrtuments..... 3. In indian classical music your domain is very constricted as in its really very difficult to switch between various 'Ragas' and thus people usually dont do this whereas western classical is very flexible and thus gives you a wide space for experimentation..... 4. Western classical delas with things like harmony, symphony, etc very efficiently.. 5. Last but not the least, when you talk about the impact on the listener,a layman always interprets music as how gud it FEELS to listen to it and he dsnt bother about all the technical stuff....and its really difficult for everyone to understand indian classical for the 'FEEL' associated with it can be understood nly by a few who have themselves learnt it or atleast have an idea f it....

Answer :
Indian classical is more powerful as If i will talk about indian classical there are two parts 1.) Hindustani 2.) Karnatki lets talk about Hindustani music which have 10 thaut, each thaut have 484 ragas. we can sing it in Dadra which is a cycle of 6 beats, Rupak is a cycle of 7 beats, Jhaptal is a cycle of 10 beats, Ektal is a cycle of 12 beats, Adha-Chautal contains 14 beats, Teen-Tal is comprised of 16 beats. So there is a vast no.of combinations till now we have not talked about Karnatki. Wheather in western music its master's base where combinations are limited and that's the reason.

Answer :
Indian classical music is more powerful. The reason:In Indian music, melody and rhythm are more developed and offer a great variety of subtleties, not possible in Western music. Indian notes are divided into small units called shruties (22 microtones in all), whereas Western music has only 12 semitones. The microtones are more subtle then semitones. These microtones adorned with gracetones (gamakas) produce a magical effect. Western music is capable of producing many moods and feelings. While Indian music has generally a principal mood or emotion in a raga. The Indian musician improvises according to his own creative genius within the framework of a raga, but in Western classical music such range of individual improvisation is inconceivable, except in jazz. Moreover, the great use of drums in Indian music emphasises its essential rhythm. It is only by keeping one’s ears and minds open that one can appreciate the special sequences and melodies different from one’s own.

Indian form of music is more powerful due to the fact: If we consider the scales of the western music they are limited ,eg, blues, pentatonic, dorian, etc. But the ragas of the indian classical musical in itself contain a whole bunch of scales for practice and this thing comes in handy for a instrument player.

Indian form of classical music is more powerful, Indian music itself shown that it has developed within a very complex interaction between different peoples of different races and cultures. Indian music is combination of vocal and instrumental music. In Indian music the melody is based on raag and taal and can be performed on the instruments. Indian music originate from vedic period and later influenced by different culture like arab and English. Indian music is renowned for its varied mood and having diverse element and I believe that if something is origin/parent of new thing it’s a worthless.

Answer :
indian music is best than western music. Like Western music, Indian music too is based on melody and rhythm, but it has no foundation of harmony which is so significant in Western music. Indian music is "modal" - based on the relationship between the permanent individual notes known as tonic, with the successive notes. This is the reason why Tanpura (drone) is played in the background of Indian music which reminds one of the tonic notes.

Answer :
Western. Definitely. Firstly, Western Classical Music (the term 'Classical' is loosely used to include various time periods / forms) evolved a highly sophisticated, but simple and effective system of notating music, namely staff notation. This ensured that the best compositions (and all others that were notated) have been passed on to later generations as the composers originally composed them. Indian Classical Music lacks a comprehensive notation system. Secondly, Western Classical Music has addressed the issue of harmony explicitly, and very systematically, both in polyphonic and monophonic forms. In contrast, Indian Classical Music only has melodies with a drone accompaniment that remains on the tonic chord irrespective of the harmony implied by the melody. Lastly, Westerns Classical Music has a strong theoretical foundation for all concepts, which makes education more systematic and widely available/accessible. In contrast, Indian Classical Music is passed on from person to person with no way to asscertain whether what was needed to be passed on was given or not, what more remains to be learnt, the time frame for learning it, whether the student can learn more from another teacher, etc. (Note: In a way, in Western Classical Music, Voice Training appears to be in a similar state, at least for more advanced singers in the West.)

Both musics are good, but western musicians are best. If we look at the performance of Steve Vai or Marty Friedman, their skills and combination of effects, it is awesome. Western music styles are coming everywhere in Indian music. Of course better instrumentation is always good, but we should try to preserve and enrich our own music. Western classical and Country musics are very good as Indian classical and folk musics.

Answer :
Western classical music has gradually evolved through the ages. Learn about some of the most notable contributors to western classical music. When you think of western classical music you immediately think of maestros like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van Beethoven. The definition of western classical music however has evolved over time. The term Western Classical Music focuses primarily on the development of music in the European region. It generally refers to music that has its roots in western art, ecclesiastical (church) music, and concert music. Music has evolved over the ages, having been influenced by various traditions, developments in technology, etc. Each stage of this evolution has been classified into a certain period. Classical music chiefly evolved within the Classical period. However, to understand western classical music you will also need to know some notable developments prior to and post the Classical period. Development Prior to the Classical Period The origins of western classical music can be traced back to the middle ages. Around 500 AD, one of the major influences in music was the Catholic Church. Pope Gregory I is said to have codified the Gregorian chant. Once the chat was documented and standardised it became a base for most tunes of the time. The tunes of the Gregorian chant were monophonic, consisting of a single melody. There was no harmonic support or accompaniment to this. In the University of Notre Dame, the Organum was created in the ninth century. The organum consisted of two melodic lines sung simultaneously or at intervals. Usually two lead singers would start simultaneously and then would start to sing in intervals gradually increasing the gap between intervals. It was only during the Renaissance period that tunes started to become polyphonic in nature. After the Renaissance, the major development in music was Baroque which was around 1600 to 1750. This highly ornamental style of music was popularised

I feel that its western music which is more powerful and complete. When I say complete I mean Indian music is monotonous . You are a ver good singer if you have learnt Indian classical music . Indian music has no concepts of Harmony or if I put it simply no concept of Chords . Chords when played with vocals or leads gives a feeling of completeness . So , I feel western classical music is more powerful as compared to Insian but indian is mighty in itself.

According to me, Western Music is more powerful than Indian Music. In western Music, individual brilliance submerges itself in a collective excellence. Each piece of music is written down, with composers defining size of orchestra, tempo of movement.. Contrast to this, Indian music lays emphasis on individuality. There is no concept of essemble,of different instruments playing togeather.Instead, there is soloist alone, with cast of supporting players. The idea of 'harmony', so essential to Western music, is completely unknown here. Thankyou. -Nikita Joshi.

Answer :
It is very hard to compare both the forms of music. Both are very different and are better than the other in some ways. For example, the fact that Indian classical music uses 22 shrutis against 12 notes in western classical music favors Indian classical music a lot. But at the same time it does not utilizes harmonical structures like its western counterpart. There are highly completed rhythmic structures (taals) in Indian classical music which can not be matched by western classical music (Jazz is not part of western classical music). But then the music notation system of western music is a great tool. So I believe that both are very powerful in their own ways. The best display of this fact is how George Harrison learned Indian classical music from Pt. Ravi Shankar and how Pt.
